As a part of the mechanise to accompany the brand, creating t-shirts and tote bags is a great way to continuously broaden your target market.
Rather than mock-up the items in photoshop, actually executing the t-shirts is a great way of learning new skills and actually create a product that could actually be used.
After creating a clipping mask of the XY, it was then possible to bitmap the image to create a halftone that would be used across the textiles merch.
For a first attempt, the t-shirts came out great, however the tote bags not so much, after receiving them in the post, they were not the right material:
I read the listing as "Not Cotton, Canvas", however it was really "Not cotton, Not canvas" and the bags were made of an extremely thin plastic material that can't be printed onto called polypropylene. Moral of the story — read the description and not just the title.
As much of a shame that this is, I feel the t-shirt provides a solid basis on which to judge how the bags would have come out if they were in fact the correct material.
