Duotone Images — Studio Brief 02 — OUGD505

To keep the publication interesting and prevent receptiveness, using a technique called duotone will enable the images to be used in a full-bleed format on the double page spread to accompany the quote.




By using both Pantone colours enabled it to be neutral, yet still convey the meaning that any person can be related to either colour (Pink/Blue stereotypes).

After this was executed, to further develop the idea, each person was asked to perform a test on how masculine or how feminine they are based on decisions they make. This could then be used as a kind of irony by utilising the colours to represent either gender:



For instance, Conor got the result of 70% male 30% Female, this would correspond with the colours in the image:




This effect doesn't look all that great in context, and people may question why the colour is split so abruptly. To combat this, a gradient was created over a grayscale image to provide a more steady split between the colours:
