As these kind of patterns (Topography) is very much easier to achieve with a computer, it was not imperative that they be sketched out first, instead, jumping straight on  computer to execute these patterns was more appropriate due to time restrictions introduced by the printing deadline.

This also allowed a trace from an image of the actual mountain:

After the right terrain contouring was achieved, it was then simplified and the surroundings were introduced to make a more complete image:
