Type Choice - Studio Brief 02 - OUGD504

As I have been using Helvetica as a provisional font to represent the logo, I wanted to gather a better idea of how the final type could appear.

With he nature of the knobs being round and smooth, I though it would be logical to go for a 'rounded' font that would reflect this.

To start, I searched TypeKit with the keyword 'rounded'; these are the results:

Rooney Sans

The subtle roundedness of Rooney Sans is easy on the eye, however, the lower case 'b' is not to my liking I think a more circular effect is needed to best represent a knob.

Report

Report is a little more successful at doing what Rooney is not, adding more circular shape into the counters. I like how this has similarities to Futura, something of which the client has used on their website.

Proxima Nova Soft

Proxima, similar to the above, but is still lacking in the roundness I'm after in the counters.

Foco

The lower case variation of this typeface is more aesthetically pleasing than the upper case one. I think this is because the upper case offer too many harsh edges and right angles, however, having said this, I do feel this could possibly benefit the brand as the controller is a basic rectangle, very minimal and simplistic.

FF Cocoon

I have a slight feeling this is the best option for me, although, I can't help but think of Kodak when I look at it. If it didn't start with a K, I'd instantly go for this.

To conclude, out of the selected typefaces, I feel the one that best represents my given concept is Report. Bearing in mind that the shown fonts are all in Regular, whereas I would use a mixture of Bold/Medium to give it more weight against my logo design.
