Bind Choice - Studio Brief 03 - OUGD504

As I want this publication to exude professionalism and quality, I feel the best bind to reflect this would be the perfect bind:

This is okay for any soft covers, however, as I am using wood for the bind, this technique cannot be utilised as I would have to cut the wood into a 45 degree angle to allow for it to lay flat and the pages be exposed.

So, to combat this issue, I have concluded that I must use the 'Case' binding technique:

This would be more forgiving when using wood like I am. I wouldn't be required to glue the wood to the pages creating a more versatile book that is easier to read.

Expanding on the case bind, I wanted to consider this example on the left. I feel this would be more do-able using wood, it would complicate the process slightly, but I think it would be worth it in the long run.

Steps I take to produce this bind will be documented further in a future post when I create some mock-ups of text blocks etc...
