Knobtronix - Studio Brief 02 - OUGD504

Knobtronix - Knobbee 32 (MIDI Controller)

I went for something in the UK and something that appeals to me, being into music production in my spare time I thought the idea of a super minimal, programmable midi controller is a brilliant concept, and set at a decent price at £215 for the full unit.

I want the logo to reflect the design of the product, like stated before, minimal and simplistic, something of which is somewhat my personal style and taste which is always a bonus.

The company that manufactures the Knobbee 32, Knobtronix, a very new company, founded by Dr. Constantin Popp and MSc Rosalía Soria Luz in Manchester UK, 2015, additional to the Knobbee, they have also crated a 'Fader Box' very similar to the Knobbee on their website, so the consistency of their particular style of industrial design within their products is great, so my main focus is to have the logo combined in this aspect, to make it look natural and in harmony with the product itself, because the product must be the focus, not the logo.

As you can see, it's a very straight to the point product, and after watching a promotional video, I found a logo for it, as well as the manufacturer logo, but I don't feel that it really does justice to the midi controller:

Website logo:

I think the idea of the knob is best representative of the product, that is a given. Speaking purely from an aesthetic point of view, the overall visual aspect of it doesn't work very well because it doesn't sell the product, in other words, the design of the logo doesn't give the product justice. I think it should be much simpler than it is, more of an icon that's not incorporated into the type would suffice, I will experiment with this more later in my development. The logo on the website is a step in the right direction, but it is only Futura set in Italic, so in hindsight there is still a considerable amount of room for improvement with the identity as a whole.

I will start the process off by contacting them and see what information I can get on the current design and the company in general.
