Stock choice is a vital part of any project, especially a book as it must be durable, and as the chosen bind method is a coptic stitch, this cannot be echoed enough as in the mock-ups cartridge paper was ripped to shreds by the wax thread.
Starting off considering something with an off-white tone would help emphasise the content, however, the images may become washed out and lose their 'pop'.
So this lead me to think that something more like 'Natural' would be more appropriate, but the whole idea of using G.F. Smith paper is to exude quality and finesse, and the content should be made to represent deterioration yet still emphasise the beauty of decay.
This then led me to use a simple bulky newsprint from the library. Theres a few reasons for this, the recycled effect will compliment the hand made aesthetic of the publication, the GSM will help bulk it up and the sturdiness will make it easier to bind.
At the bottom of this post, there is a 'Nubuck Brown' from the same collection as the selected pale stocks (colourplan). I intend to utilise the samples ordered from G.F. Smith and create a cover and end page which feature information on the book. The colour is to further emphasise and compliment the use of natural materials throughout the book.
