Dealing with Feedback - OUGD50x

Feedback is one of the most important aspects of the creative process. Whether this be in the form of informal or formal feedback, it is important to take every aspect of what the person is suggesting and apply it, whether you actually choose to pursue it will become clearer after you've gathered more feedback on top of the feedback you'd applied.

Informal Feedback

This can be gathered in many different forms and can often be the most valuable, some examples of informal feedback:

  • Passers by may comment on what you're working on. This could be in the studio, at home or even in a café.
  • Social media. Post your work online and gather countless opinions and critiques throughout development.
  • By asking someone who is unrelated to the field of graphic design to gather more target audience specific feedback.

Formal Feedback
  • Formal feedback is mostly given in the form of written comments from the tutor after the work has been submitted and assessed, the only exception being the feedback you receive during any one-to-one tutorial sessions.

To give myself an idea on what is required of me this year, I need to take the feedback received and apply it into my practice so I do not fall into the same pitfalls as I may have in the previous year.

Context of Practice
COP was a tough module for me. I had poor time management which took a knock on effect on the quality of the work produced, and my written work reflects this. As the tutors comments states, I must engage more with research to be able to successfully back up my academic writing by using more references.

Personal & Professional Practice
Overall, one of the best outcomes produced throughout the year as it is one I thoroughly enjoy. However, like in my COP, I fail to document my process and supply enough research into my journey and how I got to the final piece. Another bit of feedback was; I need to engage more within my presentations, show more imagery and be myself.
