The finding technique used was the pamphlet stitch, this is because I found this used the least resources and was fitting to my brief.
Equipment used: Scalpel, etching tool (for holes punching), ruler, white nylon string and scrap paper.
I cut the nylon down to size and then burned the ends using my lighter, this makes it easier to handle and eliminates the need for a needle.
Poking the holes was simple, just measure the correct points, as I only did a 3 point pamphlet stitch, this placement was 1/4, 1/2 and 1/4 into the spine.
Threading it wasn't too difficult as the ends were singed and slid right through the holes.
Looping the thread around and using the correct order for this technique which was documented in an earlier post.
The inside spine completed.
The outside of the spine, which was then tied into a knot and singed to hold its position.
During the final crib, someone suggested that I should have put the knot on the inside, but I find tis will make the book seem bulky as there will always be a knot in the centre of the book keeping it from closing properly.
I think this went greatly to plan, the binding looks exactly how I'd want it to. Only a small amount of string was needed, this is relevant as I wanted to keep cost as low as possible.
Someone also suggested that I use a saddle stitch, which would have been the case if the brief allowed it.
