Design Principles Task 02 - Pantone (Colour Theory) - OUGD404

In design principles, we were instructed to bring in 5 objects of a certain colour. Red, blue and yellow were the given colours and I had to find 5 objects the I possessed that were yellow.

Whilst in our groups, we had to order the items we had all brought to the table in a logical manor. This means warm to cold or light to dark etc...

We chose to order them in light to dark:

As you can see, all items were laid out on the table in a logical order.

We also labeled out table to state how we had ordered the items.

After creating the basic layout shown above. We then had to create a circle to represent the same thing.

The above image is when we swapped tables and laid out the other colour (in our case blue) in the circle as said before. The same goes for the other groups who had swapped tables.

When we had accomplished this, we were told to be sure to leave 2 items of our colour on the blue table. When we went back to our own table, the red table had left 2 of their items as shown below. We also had taken the most extreme colour and the lightest colour from the blue table. After we had all agreed the red table had ordered the yellow properly, we then had to decide where to integrate the 4 items of different colours/shades.

After much conversing, the above image shows where we decided to place the other coloured items in our yellow circle.

After we had completed these tasks, we than had to pick up all of our items and head onto the balcony with the other 2 groups to lay our items out in an order that works, so in this case we all chose to order them warm to cold for each colour in hand.

As you can tell, the colours seem to merge together and work as one.

After accomplishing the above, we then went back inside where we had pantone charts waiting for us.

The pantone charts we had ranged from coated to non-coated to solid to metallic.

Using these charts, we had to measure which pantone colour best suited the items we had in front of us.

Here is one i colour matched. The chart I used was solid uncoated.

For the above item, I chose to use solid coated as it is manufactured to be this colour. As you can tell, if you look extremely closely, DE 18-2 C seems to match up perfectly.

We were then told to do as many as we could in the time we had left. Then we went to the red table and checked over their choice of colour matching to see if we agreed with them or if we'd want to change them.

As you can see from above, the red team had also matched their items to a colour code, we simply had to double check if they were correct or if they had used the wrong coating for the item. Which on a few occasions I found they had.

The above image shows how not everyone can agree on what colour you have chosen. Although after consideration I came to the conclusion it can sometimes just be a matter of opinion when it comes down to precise colour picking like this.
